Komo POV

Danielle Hutchens is a Topanga Canyon-based painter and sculptor whose practice involves sourcing sustainable materials from her environment and exploring themes of play, the balance of masculine and feminine energy, and the pursuit of joy through slow, present living. We love her ingenuity and sourcing of recycled clay and stones to use as pigments, grinding them to powder and using water and walnut oils to create pigment. Her marbled collection emerged from a curiosity and exploration of two distinct colors that represent two distinct sides of herself, separate but blended, fluid and connected, not muddied. We love how the black and white flow together and how the curves of the collection mimic forms found in nature, from the crassostrea oyster to merulina coral, each piece functional and beautiful.
