Bio

Anna Shipulina was born in 1980 in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. She received her Master's degree in Psychology from a university in Moscow and attended Los Angeles Valley College. She is a self-taught ceramicist.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My work focuses on fluid movement, soft lines, and organic shapes. I keep a significant part of my ceramics unglazed and invite the viewer to engage in a sensory experience by physically interacting with the clay's surface.The intention is to preserve the natural qualities of clay in the finished piece, its raw tactility, and its organic characteristics. My work holds a touch of my hand reflected in its imperfect shape and the occasional fingerprints that I leave on the clay body. It’s important for me that the audience will get a feeling of the human hands that made the object.
